Cheap Engagement Rings Not Always Sign Of Being Cheap

For many men the thought of spending two months wages or more on an engagement ring is simply out of the question and they end up buying cheap engagement rings, either with a small diamond or with faux stones designed to look like a more expensive stone. While jewelers and peer pressure may seem to demand the use of large, expensive diamonds there are some women who would prefer a color stone in their ring and will be happy receiving engagement rings from their intended groom.

Additionally, couple may decide they want to spend more money on the wedding rings and opt for cheap engagement rings to put the money they save into the wedding bands, or even towards the honeymoon. If the woman has a habit of losing rings, it may be a good financial decision to use cheap rings in case it is misplaced. Regardless of what many jewelry outlets may claim, not everyone can afford to spend the recommended amount of their wages on an engagement ring.

Prior to the mid-20th century engagement rings were usually made of plain metal bands, with diamonds or other precious stones reserved for use by royalty and the extremely wealthy. Back in the 14th and 15th century cheap engagement rings were common, not due to cost but of the belief that diamonds were “small stones lacking beauty.”

New Industry Answer Call For Inexpensive Jewelry

With new technologies creating industrial diamonds and the more acceptable use of cubic zirconia, engagement rings are being made that closely resemble the more expensive ones. Some men are even using cheap engagement rings as a prelude to marriage with the promise to replace the cheap stone in the ring with a larger, more expensive stone after the wedding ceremony.

With some people, the price of the engagement ring is not as important as the promise that it represents and would rather use the money to use as the down payment on a house or some other object that will benefit the couple and their future family. By using cheap rings, a decision usually made by the couple can put their money to better use. With many engagement rings, it can be difficult, except under the right circumstances to tell the difference.

It is also a good thing for couple who do not make a ton of money that cheap engagement rings are available. With the tradition of spending two months pay on a ring, some low-low wage workers may not be able to find a real diamond that fits into their budget.
