Buffing Your Character with Meta Gems
If you play World of WarCraft, Blizzard’s massively popular MMO, and its first expansion (at least its first expansion anyway) The Burning Crusade, then you’ve most likely encountered meta gems in the game. Normal gems give you some nice buffs to your stats, but meta gems are even more powerful to give you some of the best buffs in the entire game. However, it can be slightly confusing to learn how they work and what you need on your character in prerequisites to make them function correctly. Fortunately, it’s not as confusing as your first glance might tell you.
Powerful Characters
Every MMO carries with it an underlying current of competition. Even when you’re not battling it out in the PvP (player versus player) zones, you are still trying to make your characters as powerful as possible and to become as good at playing them as possible as well. Meta gems certainly help out with the former, applying any number of buffs (specified in the description of the gem itself) to your character to give you an edge in combat. When you’re battling against dragons and the undead, you need every advantage you can muster.
While normal, glass gems might give you some moderate and decent buffs, only meta gems will give you the very best buffs in the entire game. However, you will still need to have normal gems slotted in your equipment to be able to use the better ones. Every single meta gem requires a number of colored gems to be slotted to fulfill prerequisites. This might require three yellow and two red gems. However, instead of having to slot three yellow and two red gems, you can get away with slotting three orange gems to cover both the red and yellow at the same time without taking up a total of five slots. Learning how to use gems in World of WarCraft can be confusing at first, but you’ll quickly pick up the hang of it.
Once you equip your meta gems, you’ll quickly notice the difference in battle. Gems typically benefit some classes over others. Mana buffs certainly benefit casters more, while more hit points would be more beneficial to tanks. You’ll first need to learn your class and its strengths before making a decision as to what meta gems you want to work towards. However, many of these gems require a lot of work to pick up, and you’d better buckle in for the long haul to get the very best. Decent equipment is easy to come by, but the best can only be picked up by the best teams of coordinated players.
