Software Used in Jewelry Design
The techniquesin jewelry creation were introduced in 1800s and are still being used today. These methods did well until recently. Recently there were two technology advancement introduced that changed the spectrum completely: the computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and the computer aided design (CAD). The jewelry design we know today was refashioned by these two technologies. Through the jewelry designing software the designs which you can’t seem to imagine before could now come to life.
For you to fully understand the new technololgy you’ve got to know how custom designed jewelry is being done first. Most jewelries are made via the lost wax casting. The design with wax must be created first using small tools like knives and scalpels. After this you will use the flask to place the model into and then pour around it a type of plaster known as investment. Once you stiffened the impression and the model it will be created in the flask. The jewelry design is left once the cavity is burned out.
The next step in this complex process is metal being injected in the mold using either a vacuum or casting. The jewelry casting is exposed once the metal is cooled and hardened. Casting will be prepared and welding might also be used in order to finish the product.
Hand carving is the best method for creating any custom pieces. There might be problems with inaccuracy if the result of manual process is inconsistent with the details in the computer. Precision is the key to quality. Products with fresh appearance rate more and better.
Now you might wonder, what exactly is computer aided design.? It is a sophisticated method or process which takes advanced software and places exact coordinates for the drawings. They can be sent to other machines known as growing machines. To make the model they will cut away materials by using a block of wake. To be able to create it lay down the materials from side to side. Looking at your own jewelry will show you the precision that the software can do, not comparable to prior methods.
3-D CAD allows its users to preview their design. Before this was introduced, jewelers had to rely on hand drawings to give potential buyers a sketch of the piece. Now, it can be put on a screen to look realistic before becoming real.
You have to know your stuff first before you go to a jeweler for a customized jewelry design. Expect that there will be good and bad designers in all works. Take a look at his pieces so you could assess if he/she could really meet your standards. It would help if you maintain a good relationship with your potential jeweler especially if you’re thinking of altering the design of your jewelry so you won’t have to pay much.
In creating designs and jewelry, those jewelers with the best skills will use 3d-CAD. It is better to go with the jeweler who uses advanced designing software if ever you find two simiral jewelers. It may cost more but the quality in life will pay off and look way better than if it didn’t have any 3D-CAD help.
